Auditing and Safety Inspections

As with all aspects of running a business, you measure your performance by auditing and reviewing. This is no different than with Health and Safety. You are required by law under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to audit and review all aspects of your policy.

What is a health and safety audit?

A health and safety audit is a critical examination of companies systems for complying with their Health and Safety Policy and an evaluation of whether those systems ensure compliance in a manner which is effective, reliable and efficient.

Purpose of a health and safety audit

  • To assist companies with the development of their health and safety systems by:
    • where appropriate, confirming that systems are working as they should
    • identifying strengths and weaknesses
    • helping with the creation of action plans for improvement
  • To provide feedback to the management and Safety Committee as to whether departments are doing what the company Health and Safety Policy requires them to do.
